Deathly Hallows Art: "A Free Elf."
I'm not gonna say anything. If you haven't read it yet, trust me, you don't want to click below. Summary under the cut...

Title: "A Free Elf"
Medium: Graphite
Rating: G
Characters: Harry, Dobby, friends...

Summary: "Slowly, under his murmured instruction, deep cuts appeared upon the rock's surface. He knew that Hermione could have done it more neatly, and probably more quickly, but he wanted to mark the spot as he had wanted to dig the grave. When Harry stood up again, the stone read:

HERE LIES DOBBY, A FREE ELF."
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Chapter 24: The Wandmaker, Pg. 481.

That's Luna's hand after sliding his eyelids closed, btw. *sniff* Poor, brave Dobby.

Oh god... you did it beautifully.

*closes eyes* *sighs*

You did a wonderful job on this, one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the book.

*hugs*

Oh man, did I EVER weep at this part. My sister called me while I was in the thick of reading it and she was about 10 chapters behind me, and she was like, "Oh my God, WHO JUST DIED???" because I was absolutely wibbly and incoherent.

I'm so glad you thought I did it justice. *wipes tears*

Oh V, this is so touching. *sniff* Beautiful work.

Poor Dobby.

Thanks so much, Megan. Poor Dobby indeed. I can hardly be cheerful about comments, I'm still so sad for him. :(

Beautifully rendered. This was such a touching and sad moment; I'm glad you decided to create it here. Love the lantern, and Luna's hands. *deep breath*

That's so beautiful! You're making me cry all over again! Such a heartbreaking scene.

Oh don't get me started. I had to reread it to draw it, so it was one hell of an operation trying to steer my tears away from the paper!

Thanks so much!

*bursts into tears*

His death was the first time I really cried during the book ;_; Oh Dobby ♥ This is touching and poignant, V. Really beautiful.

*comforts you*

Same here. I mean, I was wibble since page one, but Dobby's death totally did me in. :(

Anyway, thanks very much. I wanted to give Dobby a nice send-off.

Oh, this is beautiful. This was such a touching part of the book and I think you drew it perfectly. XD

Thanks so much. I certainly tried! I'm thrilled you like how it turned out. :)

Possibly one of the most tear-worthy moments in the book. Seems like you're on an artistic-explosion from DH hehe. Very passionately collated, V. Thanks for sharing :)
Venessa: *flails*mudblood428 on July 28th, 2007 04:03 am (UTC)
Oh tell me about it. Waterworks. Absolute waterworks.

And yeah, I think I may not rest until I've gotten all the DH-inspired stuff out of my system! I can't stop it, man! ;)

Thanks so much, Josh. I'm looking forward to catching up with you soon!

OMG, V! Both You and T are making me sob my heart out today. first she draws that beautiful kiss and now you do this truly moving scene. i had just reread this part of the book earlier and was tearing up ;;

You're simply brilliant. *hugs*

T DREW A KISS?

*runs away*

*comes back*

And thanks so much, Penny! I'm so happy you liked the picture (and what an appropriate icon, I must say...)
Julieaggiebell90 on July 28th, 2007 02:47 am (UTC)
Oh, wow. I sobbed and sobbed as Harry was digging the grave when I was reading. I love that Harry wanted to do it the "right way," and not use magic to dig the grave. This just captures the emotion of that scene perfectly. Beautiful and heartbreaking.
Venessa: sad Dobbymudblood428 on July 28th, 2007 04:08 am (UTC)
Good Lord, me too. :( I agree - it was best of Harry not to use magic. Dobby's life was defined by labor...

Anyway, I'm so glad you think I got it right. I figured it was a good way to see Dobby off. Thanks so much.

Beautiful! The composition of the multiple scenes is very fine; the silhouettes are particularly effective. So sad. Well done!
Venessa: sad Dobbymudblood428 on July 28th, 2007 04:13 am (UTC)
I'm glad you liked how the silhouettes worked - It absolutely broke my heart when JKR wrote Dobby as reaching out to Harry in supplication... I wanted to include it, but I didn't have it in me to actually draw it in detail. *weeps*

In any case, thank you so much. I just traipsed over to Ray's journal to look at the pictures of Smokey Hallows - little Julian is absolutely precious!
