H/G Book 7 kiss

Quotes to hearten those under persecution by LJ (ie, artists and writers)

There are lots of people who communicate ideas way better than I can. Hence...

Why I think LJ is being stupid:

"The fine art of painting, which is the bastard of alchemy, always has been always will be, a game. The rules of the game are quite simple: in a given arena, on as many psychic fronts as the talent allows, one must visually describe, the centre of the meaning of existence." (Brett Whiteley)

Why the jurisdiction of artistic propriety ought not to lie with LJ:

"Morals and criticism are not so properly objects of the understanding as of taste and sentiment. Beauty, whether moral or natural, is felt, more properly than perceived." (David Hume, Enquiries Concerning Human Understanding, 1737)

Who they're dealing with:

"The artist is not a person endowed with free will who seeks his own ends, but one who allows art to realize its purposes through him. As a human being he may have moods and a will and personal aims, but as an artist he is 'man' in a higher sense - he is 'collective man,' a vehicle and moulder of the unconscious psychic life of mankind. (Carl Jung, Psychology and Literature, 1930) ['Collective woman' would probably be more accurate to fandom, but you know what I mean.]

Why they're going to lose this arbitrary attack on artists/authors:

"Taste is not disputable: what exists in the nature of things is the standard of our judgement; what each man feels within himself is the standard of sentiment. Propositions in geometry may be proved, systems in physics may be controverted; but the harmony of verse, the tenderness of passion, the brilliancy of wit, must give immediate pleasure. No man reasons concerning another's beauty; but frequently concerning the justice or injustice of his actions." (David Hume, 1737)

And finally, what I think of them:

“You do ill to praise, but worse to censure, what you do not understand.” (Leonardo DaVinci)

PS: Um, why include a f-lock feature if it doesn't work to protect your content from the eyes of others?

H/G Book 7 kiss

Heh, yeah that's me doing a lame impression of Luna Lovegood in the lovely hat cauldroncakebkr made. It was obscenely fun hanging out with so many awesome LJers, and there were some fantastic times had by all. My wrist is being stupid again now that I've finished a colored pencil/ink piece and I'm back at work trying to get through the mountain of e-mails I came back to after going to Prophecy, so I'm going to try to make this relatively short, albeit not quite painless. ;)

Things that were incredibly awesome about Prophecy 2007:

All in all, a fantastic journey. I can't wait to do it again and connect with more of you lovely folks because there really is nothing quite so fantastic as being surrounded by people who are as enthralled with Harry Potter and all it stands for as you are. If you've never been to a con, start saving your money now. You won't regret the trip, I mean it.

Also, I daresay I owe Happy Birthday greetings out the wazoo. Apparently, everyone and their mom was born in August! :D So happiest of birthdays to miss_celestine, honeybean, belladonna803, red_heather, littlesinner, and paperink! I really hope I didn't leave anyone off the list, although I'm sure it probably happened...

Now, there's a lot of funktified crap happening with LJ, so I figured I'd put up a little note here about where my art can be found in the event that something catastrophic happens to my little LJ:

I update it as often as I can. Everything I've drawn is on it, and if you're keen to see the restricted stuff, and you're over 17, let me know via e-mail and you'll get the password. Easy peasy.

Continuing the randomness, my sister had this to say about the last picture I drew, and shocked the crap out of me since she's technically not in fandom:

Now... the question is, how badly do I want to write a fic from Ginny's perspective called "A Sensory Memory"??? I have a wonderful sister. :)

And while we're on the topic of pictures, I just wanted to say a heartfelt thank you to all of you who have commented on my work lately. A bad wrist and limited time prevents me from replying to everyone, but I do read them all, and when I'm feeling lousy for some reason or other, I go back to them to cheer myself up. I have to remind myself how ridiculously lucky I am that you're here. So thank you. :)
